SHEILA NAKITENDE’S DIGITAL ARCHIVE

PROJECT INFORMATION

Project Spotlight: sheilanakitende.com

The goal of this project was to design a digital home for Sheila Nakitende, a prominent Ugandan visual artist and researcher. My objective was to create a website that didn’t just list her achievements, but mirrored the tactile, earth-conscious, and minimalist aesthetic of her physical work.

Design Philosophy
  • Minimalist Interface: I utilized a clean, “breathable” layout to ensure her complex, texture-heavy art remains the focal point.

  • Earth-Tone Palette: The color scheme—composed of deep ochres and soft neutrals—was directly inspired by her primary medium: bark cloth (lubugo) and natural fibers.

  • Researcher-Centric Navigation: Because Sheila is a researcher as well as an artist, the site architecture prioritizes her Artist Statement and Publications alongside her Portfolio to establish her academic authority.

Key Features
  • Visual Storytelling: A curated portfolio gallery that handles both 2D and 3D installation views with high-fidelity imagery.

  • Seamless Connectivity: Integrated social feeds and a streamlined “Get In Touch” interface to facilitate global gallery inquiries and collaborations.

  • Cultural Context: Sections dedicated to the history of lubugo to help viewers understand the deep-rooted Ugandan heritage behind the art.

The Result: A digital space that acts as an extension of the artist’s studio—sophisticated, grounded in tradition, and globally accessible.
